So for the first week I had to manually assign IP addresses to every device in my home (think of it like me giving every device a walkie talkie, and setting it to the correct channel to talk to the router). If your router stops giving out walkie talkies, nobody can talk to it anymore). Think of it like your router giving them a little walkie talkie. It’s related to a bug that causes the DHCP server to shut down (ELI5: that’s what assigns your devices an IP address so they can connect to the internet. The router is known to have some bugs, like Apple devices struggling to connect. So if you’re on gigabit, you’re totally set.Īs for the main reason I’m making this comment, I definitely have had some compatibility issues with it. The speeds are generally amazing comparatively, and that’s with me only being on the 200/200 plan. I even get Wi-Fi when sitting in my car out front of my house, and that’s a good 20Ft from my house at least. I used to struggle to get good enough of a Wi-Fi signal in the upstairs of my house (router is in the basement) but now I get full coverage everywhere. I can’t compare it to the quantum gateway as I switched to it from a super old Verizon Actiontec router, but I’ll say what I can.įirst of all, the range is amazing. I’ve had the G3100 for about a week now and I’d say it’s a double edge sword. So would you guys recommend it? Or is it nothing special? I currently have the fastest internet speed Fios offers if that matters. Also I don't plan on changing internet services as I am beyond satisfied with Fios and plan to have their internet services should I move which would be great as then I can always use that router. My question would be, to those who have the G3100 would you guys recommend purchasing it? I don't see it as a bad investment as if I were to rent it its going to be $15 monthly which would be roughly around $360 for another 2 years. I know this really isn't the router as I can get a wifi extender but the new G3100 claims to get 63% more coverage as compared to other fios routers. Only issues I have with the quantum is its downstairs and sometimes when I am upstairs it won't reach or will be super slow. Let me start off by saying I have no issues with the Quantum however, I should have purchased it sooner but when I wanted to they said it was no longer available to purchase which they then came out with the G3100. I have 4 people in my house who at any point will be consuming internet via one or more of those methods and things are great when it's on.Just wanted some input as I am considering purchasing the G3100 from Verizon to replace my current quantum gateway which I am renting on a month to month basis. Otherwise the signal has been great and has allowed for multiple simultaneous video conferencing streams, gaming, video/audio streaming. I've only had the two "drops" in the last few weeks but the one this week recovered within a few hours. Happy to keep troubleshooting it with you or anyone. Originally I think I was forcing the google DNS servers, but apparently I'm not anymore and this seems to be working. I see that my settings for DNS address is the VZW router for Primary DNS and I don't have a secondary. I then used the same subnet mask that is listed in the VZW router and the gateway IP is the IP address of the VZW router. I just picked an IP address that was within the DHCP range in the VZW router. I have left the DHCP on in the VZW router and have set my Orbi to us a static IP address. Initially having the others off worked, but I began having troubles again so turned them all off and started with SIP off and that seems to have stabilized things. Hey discovered that the only ALG setting I needed to turn off was SIP ALG.
